Electric Guitar Parts Lessons

There are three main sections zoomed in the picture; the Headstock, the Neck, and the Body. The headstock holds the Tuner Posts around which the strings are wrapped and terminated. The Tuners are knobs that (or this, whichever) increase or decrease the tension on the string wrapped around the tuner posts (tuning the sound made by the strings). Note that some electric guitars may have different looking tuners, and some may even have three tuner keys on opposite sides. Even though they may look different, they work in the same manner. The Nut guides the strings to the tuner posts and maintains the height of the strings.

The length of the Neck depends on the scale of the guitar and the number of frets it has. The back of the neck could be "C" shaped, or "V" shaped (sideways < if you compare it to the letter C). The front of the neck is the Fingerboard or Fretboard, that contains the Frets embedded in notches along its surface. The Strings run down the neck over the frets. The height of the strings over the frets is called the Action; if the action is too high the strings are harder to press down, if the action is too low the strings may rattle against the frets muffling the notes. The neck usually has "dot" markers on the top and the side facing the player, showing the position of the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th (which has two dots), 15th, 17th, 19th, 21st, and 24th (which also has two dots) fret. Note that not all electric guitars have 24 frets. Those guitars that do have 24 frets will have smaller spacing between all the other frets, which is may make things a little difficult for large hands and fingers.

The body of the electric guitar (this instrument is used in every form of music, from Classical to Heavy Metal) has one, two or three Pickups under the strings. These electro-magnetic coils "pickup" the vibration from the strings and send it to the amp. There are two varieties of pickups, single-coil and humbucker (dual-coil), and electric guitars have different combinations of these pickups in the three possible positions - closest to the neck, in the middle, and furthest from the neck. A Pickup Selector Switch allows you to choose which pickup will be active, some models even allow you to select combinations of pickups for unique sounds. The strings terminate in the Bridge, some versions also have a Whammy Bar to create Tremolo effects (by rapidly pushing the bar in and out, changing the angle of the bridge). Volume and Tone control knobs are also present on the body, allowing you to make minor changes to your guitars sound without having to fiddle with the amp. A Cable Connector allows you to connect a cable from your electric guitar to your amplifier or effects pedal.

Canon Digital IXUS 65 - Touch Control Dial
This also applies to the back of the camera. The first thing you notice is the really large screen; there is hardly any room for the buttons. Canon has found a clever solution to this with the Touch Control Dial. You can set the sensitivity, flash setting, record speed, self timer and the macro and landscape settings with this dial. Canon fans will find the well known FUNC button in the middle of the Touch Control Dial, which you can use to get to the most important settings quickly. You may have to search a bit in the beginning, but once you have learnt your way around a quick review button and the functions concealed behind it you won't want anything else. The indispensable Direct Print and Share buttons are above the Touch Control Dial. If you connect the Canon IXUS 65 to a computer or mobile printer, such as the Canon SELPHY, you can send photos directly. The LED on the bottom left of the click wheel indicates if writing or reading is taking place on the memory card, if the digital camera is ready to take a shot or if there is a risk of blurring caused by movement. Finally, there is the menu button and a button to switch between the various screen reproductions.

Canon Digital IXUS 65 - Metal case
There are not many buttons to contend with, which makes everything easier to oversee. The most important functions are easy to approach. Canon Digital IXUS 65 is not just attractive; it also feels good when you hold it. Thanks to the metal casing, this camera feels sturdy and you can take it everywhere with you. However, it does scratch easily as does the beautiful 3 inch screen. It would be wise to buy a case to keep the Canon IXUS 65 in if you want to keep the camera in your bag or pocket. After all, you will want to keep a showpiece like this in top condition for as long as possible.

Canon Digital IXUS 65 | Digital Camera Review | Camera

Canon IXUS 65 camera - Lens
The Canon IXUS 65 looks particularly attractive from the front. The polished silver gives the camera allure. Naturally, the 5.8-17.4 f/2.8 - f4.9 Canon lens takes centre stage. The range corresponds to 35 - 105 mm in 35mm format. It is a nice small lens that can come and position itself very quickly. Around the lens is the typical designer's ring, characteristic of the IXUS series, in which a microphone has been placed. The little LED above the ring acts as an assistance illuminator for the auto focus and red eye reduction and as a light for the self timer. The flash is above right and all in all, the front looks attractive and streamlined.

Canon Digital IXUS 65 camera - A/V & USB connections
On the left hand side, there are interfaces for the A/V and USB connections, neatly concealed behind a rubber. Underneath is a metal eye that can be used either for a wrist band or, if you want to be trendy, for hanging the Canon IXUS 65 around your neck. Underneath the camera is a plastic universal tripod connection and the door to the battery and the Secure Digital memory card. There is also an interface for an AC adapter in the door that is sealed with a plastic flap when not in use.

Canon IXUS 65 camera - Swtich
The main switch is in the middle of the top of the Canon Digital IXUS 65 camera. To the left is the switch for the record setting and playing back the images. On the far right is a clearly visible shutter release surrounded by the zoom switch. Finally, a small speaker has been integrated into the casing. The top side is easy to oversee and has a streamlined design.

The Canon Digital Rebel XT digital SLR camera

This article will serve as a Canon Digital Rebel XT review, and highlight to you some of the best features, along with shortcomings of this professional SLR camera.

Some interesting points about the Canon Digital Rebel XT were apparent as I reviewed the camera. On the upside, it has a very fast start-up speed, taking just a fraction of a second to power up. It also produces fantastic looking pictures. However, it also has its downsides. For example, it has a lightweight plastic body which isn't ergonomically satisfying. In addition, it has a limited continuous-shooting mode, which may be restrictive in some photo situations. If you're thinking of buying this digital camera, you'll do well to take these factors into consideration.

In any case, let’s now jump right into the review and take a good look at the features of the Canon Digital Rebel XT.

Design and Construction

In terms of dimensions, the Canon Digital Rebel XT measures 4.98" by 3.71" by 2.52" (WHD) and weighs just 1.07 pounds. The body itself is made of solid black material (it's also available in silver) and looks very durable.

Holding the camera in your hands, you can tell that it has a nice, sturdy feeling and can be held very stably when shooting tricky shots. If the 'look' of the camera is an important consideration for you, you'll be glad to know that the Canon Digital Rebel XT fits the bill. It really looks like a professional digital SLR, with its big body size and excellent design.

Optics and Resolution

The Canon Digital Rebel XT is equipped with a powerful 3x optical zoom lens and offers with a 8.0 megapixel resolution. You can fit a range of wide angle or telephoto lenses on to the body for shooting any subject.

If you're particular about the optics within the device, the Canon Digital Rebel XT has an ISO range of 100 to 1600, as well as an aperture range of f3.5/f5.6 (wide/tele). As for shutter speeds, they range from 30 - 1/4000 sec.

I had the chance to take some test photos using the Canon Digital Rebel XT. The resulting pictures were nothing short of stunning - great color tones, accurate hues and subtle shadows.

User Controls

The user controls in the Canon Digital Rebel XT can be accessed through the 1.8 inch LCD screen. The controls might take a little getting used to - however, I did not have any problems reaching commonly used functions like flash control or image viewing.

And in case you're wondering, this digital camera has manual controls which let you have better exposure control. You can also have fun with the various focusing and manual options. The Canon Digital Rebel XT also does not come with a movie mode - I wouldn't expect it in a professional SLR model - so if you want to record videos, then you may have to look elsewhere.

Battery Life

The Canon Digital Rebel XT uses proprietary lithium batteries. What about the battery life? I can say its pretty decent. I managed to go through a full day's shooting with a single battery charge. You may of course want to invest in an extra battery - just in case, especially if you're going overseas on a vacation.

Storage and Transfer

In terms of storage, the Canon Digital Rebel XT accepts CompactFlash Type I/II memory cards. You’ll certainly want to purchase a higher capacity card to ensure you don't run out of storage space easily. Personally, I have a five 1GB memory cards. Yes, I know that's going overboard a little - but it's always good to be safe than sorry, especially since the Rebel XT can take 8 megapixel photos.

Image transfers are done via a speedy USB 2.0 interface - so rest assured that your photos will get downloaded to your PC pretty fast.

Shortcomings

The bad points about the Canon Digital Rebel XT? Well, here are two shortcomings I’d point out to you. This digital camera will sell many more units if they were corrected. Firstly, the device has a lightweight plastic body which isn't ergonomically satisfying - a fact which many professional photographers will concur with. Secondly, it has a limited continuous-shooting mode, which may be restrictive in some photo situations.

Conclusion

Despite its shortcomings, the Canon Digital Rebel XT is one heck of a digital camera. Whether you’re a beginner in digital photography, or a seasoned professional, you may want to consider buying this little baby. Take it with you anywhere, snap as many photos as you can - just experiment and learn!
